Maths work and spelling work

Room 12 has been doing some math and spelling work. Here are some photos of what we have been learning:

On this photo, is some plural activities we have been doing. We had to change the word into a plural. In case you don't know what they are, here are the spelling rules:
  • You add 's' to the word.
  • You add 'es' to words that end in x, z, s, ss, ch, sh, and sometimes even o.
  • You change 'f' to 'v' on words that end with an f sound.
  • You changing the 'y' in words ending in 'y' to and 'i' and adding es
  • By changing the word completely
  • By leaving the word the same for both singular and plural
It wasn't easy, though. Some of the words were trick words like 'myself', 'salmon', and 'trout'. I got all but one wrong which was 'echo'.
Here is the maths work. It is decimals, so it was exclusive for the 'Tapawha' group. (Tapawha is the Maori
word for square. Tapa meaning sides and wha meaning 4.)
I am going well, but I have my weak points.
My goal is to fix them.

Assembly

In week 5, team 12 had their assembly. It was based on war time and remembrance for the soldiers that fought at Gallipoli. The story goes that it is ANZAC day, and some kids here about some mad scientists that have created a time machine [which is really just some steps that lead you into backstage] and they get a ride with them back into WWII (World War 2). It becomes the year 1944 and they slowly look around at:
1.Morse Code
2. Sergeants and Soldiers
Then we had a song called 'The sandfly song' By C. Smith
3. Gallipoli landing
4. Memorial service

They were all little skits by the members of our class, 100% made by us. I was in the Morse Code skit. There were three of us (Desmond, Brenna and Me) and Desmond and I were sending a message to Brenna and she was trying to guess what it was. Both teams had their own cardboard box, which was meant to be a radio. Our skit was short, but kind-of-difficult, because we had forgot our scripts! Luckily, Brenna and I remembered it and helped Desmond remember it too.
The assembly was really fun, and exciting. My favourite part was when Corban was yelling at all the soldiers in the 'Sargeants and soldiers' skit. We had negative parts like my script and the door wouldn't open when the time travellers were trying to get through, but in the end, we did it. It was so fun!

Speeches

Hi there! It's me again! Today I am writing a post on our syndicate speeches.
For the past 2 weeks, the senior syndicate has been working on our speeches. The topic is discovery, so it has to be about a discovery, or a famous person. My speech, is about Thomas Alva Edison. He was born in Milan Ohio, USA on February 11, 1847. He had some peculiar times, and some good times, like this little story:

When Thomas Alva Edison was just a little boy, he asked his mother:
"Why mom, why do geese sit on their eggs?"
She replied: "So they will be kept warm."
"Why?"
"So they will hatch."
Ed had no idea of what hatch could mean so he asked what it meant. His mother answered that it means the baby goose can come out of the eggs, and come into this world.
The following day, Ed was nowhere to be found. Like Jesus and his parents, cried out and wondered where he was. They found him in their neighbours barn. There, he was sitting on some goose eggs. He said he was trying to see if they would hatch. After a few long minutes, he got bored and became disappointed that they wouldn't hatch. He left.

That was a very odd day for Edison, and he went home to get a spanking on the legs. I'm lucky I know better then sit on some eggs and wait to see if they will hatch.
