Speeches

Hi there! It's me again! Today I am writing a post on our syndicate speeches.
For the past 2 weeks, the senior syndicate has been working on our speeches. The topic is discovery, so it has to be about a discovery, or a famous person. My speech, is about Thomas Alva Edison. He was born in Milan Ohio, USA on February 11, 1847. He had some peculiar times, and some good times, like this little story:

When Thomas Alva Edison was just a little boy, he asked his mother:
"Why mom, why do geese sit on their eggs?"
She replied: "So they will be kept warm."
"Why?"
"So they will hatch."
Ed had no idea of what hatch could mean so he asked what it meant. His mother answered that it means the baby goose can come out of the eggs, and come into this world.
The following day, Ed was nowhere to be found. Like Jesus and his parents, cried out and wondered where he was. They found him in their neighbours barn. There, he was sitting on some goose eggs. He said he was trying to see if they would hatch. After a few long minutes, he got bored and became disappointed that they wouldn't hatch. He left.

That was a very odd day for Edison, and he went home to get a spanking on the legs. I'm lucky I know better then sit on some eggs and wait to see if they will hatch.

  1. Wow! I am sooo impressed Chayse with your amazing speech. I thought you spoke clearly and articulated exactly what messages and points about Thomas Alva Edison that you set out to make. I especially liked your use of the lightbulb and battery as a visual example. I know how much practise you put into your presentation/speech and it really showed in this clip. Well done and lots of encouragement from me to you Mum.
